WHO updates its list of drug-resistant bacteria that are the greatest threat to human health

The World Health Organization (WHO) has recently updated its List of Priority pathogens for 2024: WHO Bacterial Priority Priority Pathogens List (WHO BPPL).

The first list was published during 2017, and since then the threat of resistant bacteria has greatly intensified.

The new list includes 15 families of antibiotic-resistant bacteria classified according to three priority categories: critical, high and medium. It provides guidance on the development of new treatments needed to halt the spread of antimicrobial resistance.
